Sienna Quizon Gooco
May 7, 1963 - January 17, 2008

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I inform you, ourclassmate,,SIENNA QUIZON-GOOCO passed away at 3:00 pm today, Jan.17, 2008 Manila time. Funeral date: Tuesday January 22, 2008, mass will be held at Don Bosco Church, 1:00 pm.

We ask everyone to pray for the eternal repose of her soul.
May she rest in peace. We, The Class of 1980, would like to extend our sympathies to her husband Glenn, family and friends.

I would like to share an email Sienna sent me last October 28, 2005:


I've had cancer for so long now, 11 years in fact, it's old news. Had it in 1994 -breast cancer stage 2.  Then it recurred in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005. I just had my 5th chemo session last monday 24th of October. It's been recurring and had actually metastasized but am still okay.  I have really good doctors. and God has been really good to me.  It's a good life. But the best is yet to come.

What more can I say?  Prayers are, of course, always welcome.  It's the one thing that's keeping me going all these years. and i'm really a believer. You have no idea of my mini miracles.

One of these days, I'm going to write an article of my cancer experience.  If I do, I hope you'll post it in our website.  don't worry, it's not going to be your usual boohoohoo-poor-me-i have-cancer-why me? article.  I hope to deviate from that.  After all, I've always been a nonconformist of some sort.

Kayla was airlifted today from ICU @ Cottage Hospital to the Rehab Center in Stanford, CA to begin her physical therapy. She's been recovering well and only a few days after her surgeries, she's able to speak clearly and move her upper limbs. It's been nothing short of a miracle. She has a long road ahead, but she's being very optimistic and is up for the challenge.

Just a little update:

- My mom was released yesterday (thank god). Out of the three of them, she had the least injuries - just some bruising on her hand, some back pain and nausea, but she's in good spirits.
- My dad is going to be discharged later on today (hopefully). He scraped his skull and has some few head injuries, but nothing too serious. He's going to have to get some outpatient surgery later on, but we're thankful that he's up and about.
- As you all know, Kayla suffered the most injuries. She was thrown from the vehicle and we believe she landed on her back. Her injuries are pretty extensive: twisted knee, laceration on her spleen, intestine and abdomen, cracked ribs, 3 broken vertebre (1 of which had to be replaced with a prostesis) and a broken neck. She underwent an 8-hour surgery two days ago and as of right now, she's making amazing progress. They were able to remove some IVs and we're crossing our fingers that they will be able to remove her breathing tube today because they say that she's steadily breathing on her own. She also has feeling in both arms and hands. She's awake, conscious and responsive. And she still has her sense of humor - I was pressing her with all these questions last night and I could tell she was getting a little agitated. I asked if she wanted me to shut up and the response was clear: YES!

I will try to keep you all updated as I can. Thank you all so much for the prayers and the calls of concern. It's in times like these that we really realize how supportive our family and friends are and I can't thank you all enough.
